...look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.
(Mr. Barack Obama, President of USA, July 13, 2012)
Later he switched to regular presidential Campaign. I'm not USA citizen, so, I don't want to be blaimed as propaganda-bot from any side of Presidential Race 2012. I just find extremely interesting quote, nothing more.
What's interesting?
Just from my experience, anyway, limited and unrepresentative from general point of view, any and everyone "self-made person" had a great background and support from someone "along the line". Of course we aren't talking about "survival self-employed" guys. We are about so-called "self-made" persons, who "unexpectedly" buy the future oil-rich land, "luckily" buy OS and author rights just before the DoD's announcement of competition, etc.
You can easily find a lot of "literature" like: "Try! Work harder and try!...", etc. But when You start just simple talk with anyone, who really starts his own business and been successful, You unexpectedly note, how many really powerful guys this person knew just from the start! This person simply hadn't the option "Fail". :) They just were unable to do this. Moreover, the level of power of their connections limits the level of their success.
